Small
law firm sets trial run for growth
At
a time when many small law firms are
struggling, Feldman & Associates
is not only growing, but its owners
are positioning it to be recession-resistant.
David Feldman, who started the corporate
law firm in 1996, says that the addition
of partner Eric Weinstein and four associates
in the last six months positions the
rechristened Feldman and Weinstein for
modest but-more important these days-sustained
growth.
Mr. Feldman says the addition brings
the firm to 11 lawyers. Crucially, it
also brings new areas of specialization,
including franchising and securities
regulation.
Mr. Feldman reckons that diversification
will help insulate the firm against
downturns, as does his rule that no
single client represent more than 8%
of the firm's annual revenues of $2
million.
A Wharton graduate who says his marketing
skills have helped him build long-term
client relationships, Mr. Feldman says
his clients are small and medium-sized
companies that typically get "lost in
the sauce" at big law firms.
